About OpenBed
In an emergency in Lagos, finding a hospital that can admit a patient often means calling around. Ambulance crews, referring doctors and families ring one hospital after another, and every call costs time. Hospitals take the same call, over and over, on every shift.
OpenBed is a public map that shortens that search. It shows which hospitals say they can admit, in which ward, how many beds, and how recently the hospital said so. It also shows the number to call.
What OpenBed is, and is not
- It is the hospital's own statement. Each hospital's ward staff publish their own counts. OpenBed does not guess, estimate or change them.
- It is indicative. A count helps you decide who to call first. It does not reserve a bed, and it never tells anyone that a bed is waiting for them. Call the hospital before you travel.
- It is honest about age. Every count shows when it was last updated. An older count is marked as older and asks you to call to confirm. OpenBed never shows an old update as a new one.
- It holds no patient information. It does not ask for, record or show anything about patients.
- Your location stays on your device. It is used only if you tap 'Near me', to work out distances in your browser. OpenBed never receives or stores it.
- It does not rate hospitals. The list is ordered only by how recently each hospital reported and, if you choose a starting point, by straight-line distance. There are no scores, no league tables and no paid placement.
Free for everyone who uses it
OpenBed is free for everyone who uses it. There is nothing to install and no account to make. It works in a phone's web browser.
